Auction Description

Vintage Estate Light Cream colored Linen Tablecloth 26"
fine linen with delicate embroidery and tiny eyelet baskets
Victorian era  Delicate and Beautiful Work from Germany  GP

PLEASE NOTE:  for US buyers, second item always ships free.  For international buyers, you will only pay actual weight

See banner above for latest sale info!

I am beginning to list the contents of an estate that dates back well into the 1870s and reflects all the beautiful needlework of that era.  All will be listed with a GP in title, so will be easily searchable.

Estate reflects several sets of grandmothers and great grandmothers and we will furnish the names after purchase so that credit can be given for the makers and owners of these beautiful Victorian items.  I want to get the items on fairly quickly, (many monogramed linens here) so will identify owners later.

Estate is fantastic.  Many items I have never seen before, much less offered for sale in my linen store.  More items than we can count right now.

Estate includes handmade lace handkerchiefs, collars (many), doilies, edging, runners, trims from dresses/blouses, and shams (many).  Embroidered bags, doilies, tableclothes and napkins, many early damask.  Victorian calf leather gloves, storage bags, handbags and more.  Many items handmade, many items from France, Ireland, Germany, and more.

Background:  this family immigrated from Germany to US in the late 1930s just prior to World War II and brought their complete household with them.  Both were physicians.  Both brought family items that date back to 1870s and in beautiful condition despite the age.  Only a very few items can be classified as "cutters", meaning  items that can be used for crafts, framing, or whatever you please.  I know many of you ladies love the old laces so I plan to list even the less than perfect items just for you.

Most of these items are handmade, and I sure brushed up on my lace education so that I can give you correct information. To let you know the quality here, some of the clothing items are going to a speciality auction next year!

I will add information as I get it on all items, and again will furnish the names of the original owners as well.

*******

Linen and embroidery tablecloth in light cream color and made with very fine embroidery  threads and eyelets cut into the linen. This is a Victorian beauty, made by hand, padded embroidery stitches, flowers, baskets and leaves with dots.

These are so versatile for anywhere you need a little bit of beautiful embroidery.  Use in center of large dining table, or small one.  Use over a darker tablecloth.  Use on a sideboard, hutch or even Victorian style on your piano.  Excellent.

Lots of detail: Complex pattern beautifully made by expert needlewoman.  Even tiny little eyelets cut and stitches all around the size of a 1/4 of a pencil eraser!  Hand cut and embroidered scallops all around the outside edge.

Measurements:  round shape, 26" across

Design:  26" very lightweight linen tablecloth with outer ring of decoration.  Decoration includes embroidered baskets, flowers, and complex padded embroidery stitches.  Lots of cutout eyelets decorate the motifs.  Embroidery is in matching threads so beautiful in cream and cream.

Colors: light cream color.

Fiber: fine weight linen with cotton embroidery  thread.

Age:  I am no expert, I am guessing somewhere between 1870s and 1900 based on the very complex and beautiful work.

Condition: good for its age (130 years +). Some smudging from storage that is overall and  will come out easily with a gentle cleaning in mild solution of powdered Biz (enzyme cleaner).  To make the stitches pop, lightly steam press with a pressing cloth over and a terry towel under (good side down).  This will clean up beautifully.

Beautiful smaller tablecloth which is so versatile.  Can be used for center of a large table or small. On a buffet or sideboard.   More to come but this is one of the best in the group!
