Vintage 1920 1930s Leather and brass Leather Bag Purse Handbag
Caramel color, embossed like lizard or snakeskin
6x9" size with snap closure and handle

Found the cutest little leather bag at an estate sale. The shape, the detail, the little handle, the brass hardware make it so sweet.

Design: lots of detail on this clever little bag. Oval shaped with a wide gusset so the bag expands nicely, there is a curved covered brass bar along the top edge and a brass clasp (really nice snap to it too). From the side of the brass is a little button, w/ which the handle is attached. Inside has 3 pockets, a little bit of chain (maybe a little mirror was once attached, and a little gold stamp which reads Tetsch or Fetsch with a little swirl/musical clef/ or snail (when the gold is slightly worn, hard to tell.

Measurements: 6” tall x 9” wide (at widest part – shade is rounded) x 2 ½” deep (measurement at side gusset.

Color: a pretty caramel brown

Fiber: No tags so very hard to guess what it is made of. To me it appears to be embossed leather. Embossed to look like lizard or something. Nicely done. Lining is darker color and appears to be a matte satin.

Age: not sure, it does not look like the 1940s or 1950s purses I have seen. Different shape. Might be 1910-1930s era? Just has that look to it. Smaller with lots of detail. But I sure am not a purse expert.

Condition: remarkably good for its age (whatever that may be). No rips, tears, or splits. No damage to handbag, the handle, the clasp or the lining. Does seem to be missing a little accessory, there is a bit of gold chain hanging inside with no accessory. Lining is a darker color, looks black and is a a taffeta like fabric. Looks a tiny bit dusty inside but might be the color of the fabric. There is a smudge on the inside by the clasp, 2” long. Looks like it will clean off. There is also a darker mark (see photo) on the outside which could be a mark, but I think it is part of the coloring on the leather.

Beautiful little bag with brass hardware, a solid and good clasp that closes with a snap, and a nice little handle. It is a sweet little oval shape, and just an excellent little handbag/purse. Cute as can be. Can't imagine this will hold your organizer, bottle of water, etc. but cute and perfect for an evening out.
