Found this beautiful pair of white linen pillowcases with large panel of crochet design (7x20" at an estate auction this week.  This lady had a unique estate, almost 100 sets of unopened sheets, 75 blankets, and a little of this and that.  I was lucky to find two mint sets of damask tablecloths with napkins and these little beauties.

I am guessing these are 1940s or 1950s but could be a bit older, if they indeed made the varigated hot pink before 1940s.  Workmanship is better than average on the finely made crochet designs, and the pillowcases themselves are excellent quality, with no side seams, pure linen, very very finely woven.

Colors:  Darker shades of hot pink, range from darker hot pink to medium hot pink.  Pillowcases are white.

 Measurements: 22x34" larger size with crochet insert that measures 7x20".

Design: open end of pillowcases have a cut out portion, 7x20" with scalloped edges on the linen side, with insert of a beautiful crochet pattern.  Could be flowers, but has resemblance to a cathedral rose window with scalloped circles connected with X shaped connectors.  All have picots too.  Main crochet is on one edge of open side, but there is also a 1" crochet edge on back side.  It is pointed scallopss with an off white edge.  This is superior crochet,  best I have seen in a while.

Condition:  very good for its age which is at least 60+, but it has an overall  dingy look a a few storage smudges.  An overnight soak in an enzyme cleaner like Biz or Oxyclean will get it sparkling again. Has a storage smell, sort of a dusty odor.  This lady had so many linens, that she must have stored in attic, they all have a bit of an odor, a problem easily taken care of.

 Bold and beautiful pair of pillowcases, unusual to find linen, but these are.  Also unusual to find them without woven side seams, these were woven in a tube shape with just the bottom seam.  Linen is extremely finely woven.  Crochet is just as well done.  Would be beautiful in a rose or pink bedroom.
