Found some really nice little tea towels at an estate sale this week. These remain very popular vintage linen items, as you can use them as towel and as runners or doilies too.
Beautiful white cotton towel in the Swedish style, ths little beauty is 17x26" size with 3/4" turned hem and machine stitched hem on the two short sides sides and salvage on the long edges.
People call this a variety of names, Swedish embroidery, huck embroidery, Danish darning, needle weaving, etc. But is beautiful whatever they call it. Design is made by weaving embroidery floss into patterns along top of cloth using the threads as a guide. Kind of a counted cross stitch with running stitches. Amazing how many designs there are!
Design: beautiful motifs, should we call them geometric or stylized? Wide 4" band of embroidery on one short end, small line of stitching on the other. Design is hard to describe, sort of a picture frame motif with diamonds in between them, in brighter colors.
Color: off white towel with bright gold and blue embroidery.
Fiber: cotton towel with cotton floss thread decoration.
Special features: delicate and fancy embroidery design.
Condition: very good for its age. No rips, tears, damage or smudging. But is dingy because of its long storage, you will want to wash before using.
Delicate embroidery technique. Grab quick because these sell very fast. NO ONE does this embroidery any more.
