I am beginning to list the contents of an estate that dates back well into the 1870s and reflects all the beautiful needlework of that era. All will be listed with a GP in title, so will be easily searchable.
Estate reflects several sets of grandmothers and great grandmothers and we will furnish the names after purchase so that credit can be given for the makers and owners of these beautiful Victorian items. I want to get the items on fairly quickly, (many monogramed linens here) so will identify owners later.
Estate is fantastic. Many items I have never seen before, much less offered for sale in my linen store. More items than we can count right now.
Estate includes handmade lace handkerchiefs, collars (many), doilies, edging, runners, trims from dresses/blouses, and shams (many). Embroidered bags, doilies, tableclothes and napkins, many early damask. Victorian calf leather gloves, storage bags, handbags and more. Many items handmade, many items from France, Ireland, Germany, and more.
Background: this family immigrated from Germany to US in the late 1930s just prior to World War II and brought their complete household with them. Both were physicians. Both brought family items that date back to 1870s and in beautiful condition despite the age. Only a very few items can be classified as "cutters", meaning items that can be used for crafts, framing, or whatever you please. I know many of you ladies love the old laces so I plan to list even the less than perfect items just for you.
Most of these items are handmade, and I sure brushed up on my lace education so that I can give you correct information. To let you know the quality here, some of the clothing items are going to a speciality auction next year!
I will add information as I get it on all items, and again will furnish the names of the original owners as well.

Change of pace now, some later pieces from 1940s 1950s from the same estate. Maybe these were bought by my friend's mom? Beautifully linen cocktail napkins with patterns made by drawing out threads of the linen in a design. This is a set of ten cocktail napkins.
Beautiful for use as originally made, for cocktail napkins. Also can be used as doilies in the man cave, or a gift for your favorite bartender.
Lots of detail: Each white cocktail napkin has drawnwork designs on all the borders. The border designs pulls the linen into a slight scallop shape, and the inner row of drawnwork creates a lacy look. Linen on this set is whisper thin, slightly transparent, and very finely woven.
Measurements: rectangular shape, 4 1/2 x7"
Colors: soft white
Fiber: linen, very finely woven and transparent. Must be European
Age: I am no expert, I am guessing somewhere between 1940s 1950s based popularity of cocktails at that time.
Condition: very good for its age (70+ years ). No rips, tears or holes. There is slight storage smudging, that will soak out easily in enzyme cleaner (I recommend powdered Biz which you can buy in food store. Do not use Oxyclean, it is a non-chlorine bleach that can damage vintage linens).
More to come in this beautiful group!
