Found a wonderful set of day of the week towels made in the 1940s or 1950s. Sweet as can be but I am missing most of them so it is an incomplete set. So I decided to just split the towels up and sell them separately at a low price.
Really nice off white cotton towels,in what we used to call flour sack material, a really firmly woven cotton in lighter weight. Nice size too, 34x34" with decoration in one corner.
Rooster is doing all his chores is just the handsomest boy with lots of satin stitching on him, this comb and his tools. For those of you young chicks that need an explaination, in the old days housewives had such heavy workloads that they divided the work up: Traditionally Monday was wash day, Tuesday ironing day, Wednesday mending/sewing day, Thursday is cleaning day, and Friday is shopping day, Saturday was baking day and Sunday is the day of rest! Whew!!
These towels were very popular in the 1940s and 1950s with many available via Aunt Martha's transfers of kittens, dogs, chickens, roosters, etc doing the days of the week activities. Also have been teapots, cutlery, and pots/pans with faces, dancing around kitchens doing their chores. No one ever got enough of these towel sets.
Measurements: 34x34".
Condition: very good. No rips, tears or stains. Looks unused.
