Found a box of gorgeous doilies and crochet items at an auction last week. All from the same household and probably the same maker (or family). With crochet I always think that either the maker is very very good (like my grandma), or "just learning". All of these are gorgeous.

Beautiful earlier doilies, definitely not from the 1950s. I would date it turn of century thru 1920s perhaps. Since very early Victorian times, various "braids" and "beads" were used to decorate linens, crochet, and other work. Probably because they were something different and because they were inexpensive, all machine made. Here you see a trim that I think was once called turtle back, that is joined by a little bridge. The crochet uses it to create wreaths, so the crocheter was quite experienced and imaginative too.

As I was pulling these out of the boxes I could not believe it as I pulled out doily after doily of this same design. There are about three different sizes of the same doily. I broke them up into sets.

This set is made up of two doilies, 11".

Design: Center of the doily is heavier linen, white, and the crochet edging is a deep all around. Crochet is 1 1/2" tiny single crochet band with a wide band of fancy long bridges, the trim and netted fans on the outside edge.

Measurements: 11" (2 pc) round shape

Colors: white, fine threads circling finely woven linen center.

Condition: very good for its age. No rips, or tears, or stains. Great shape for gift giving.

Very pretty gift for a special person, the best crochet linen doilies I have seen for quite a while. Older and prettier than the average old 1950s doily.
