Based on the diary and photographs of Yorkshire miner Arthur Wakefield, this acclaimed book provides one of the best detailed first-hand accounts of what it was like to be a miner on strike - supporting the NUM - during the year-long dispute.  Arthur Wakefield, who  never missed a day on picket duty or fund raising, recorded his daily experiences in a unique diary. His aim was to pass on his story and an account of the strike to his grandchildren.  Not only did he achieve this but the book has been read all over the UK and in many countries.   Armed with nothing more than a basic camera, Arthur travelled to pits, ports and works in Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and the Midlands, and campaigned and collected for the NUM at a variety of locations, including London. His photographs alone, for example those he took at Orgreave,  are of considerable historic importance; and his text equally impressive.
