Found a box of miscellaneous sewing buttons at an estate auction a few weeks ago. 

Nice mix of excellent buttons, most of them smaller sizes, 3/4" or less.  There are 35 packages or cards or separate packages of these beauties, like any old button box, there are some real oldies in this one, mostly the pearl shirt buttons.  I am no button expert but know how to tell one type from another, so can give you a bit of a look at what we have here.  Lots of buttons, there are about 10 oz here.   Not sure why they are about 30 to a little packet, must have come off shirts?

Here is the breakdown of all the pieces included (I am doing a quick count on the packaged buttons, so these are approximate):

1. Le Chic metal 5/8" buttons, 5 buttons remaining. old 59 cent package

2. Lansing button card, 85 cents (so newer) 3/4", 2 buttons, card complete, peach color.

3. no brand card, 9 metal 1/2" buttons without shank.  Little astronomical signs.

4. no brand card, older cardboard, white, 12 pcs 1/2" shell/pearl buttons.

5. one ornate metal snap on original section of card, peachy 1950s look.  1/2"

6. package, one button, 1/4" glass with rim.

7. package "Crafty buttons" newer $1.99 price, says 45 pcs, looks like about 20 left, plastic, darker jewel colors, sizes 1/2 to 3/4" sizes.

8.  Lansing Button company, 29 cent price,  tiny 1/4" plastic white buttons.  18 pcs card intact.

9.  one metal and pearl button, square 3/4", plastic shank.  Looks 1970s.

10.  package, black plastic button, 1/2" with embossed rim.

11. one red plastic button on card, 3/4".  No brand name, that part missing on card.

12. older button, 1 1/4", looks like cork and plastic lattice design.  Looks 1940s.

13. 1/2" dark metal button w/ shank, embossed with flower.  Looks older or in older style.

14.  package of white buttons;  29 pcs, 1/2", old white glass buttons with raised rim and 4 holes, look like a majority match.  Perhaps shirt buttons?

15.  package of white buttons: 30 pcs 1/2", look like pearl/shell buttons, four hole, various thicknesses,  some sets with raised rims, 4 hole, others a bit different.  This have a yellowish cast to them.

16.  package of white buttons: 32 pcs, 1/2" some slightly smaller, most are a creamy/yellow color that look like pearl/sheel, some have a wide rim, a majority are two hole, a few 4 hole.  Miscellaneous package.

17. package of white buttons: 1/2", pearl/shell, 29 pcs of varying thicknesses, all 4 hole.  Slightly yellow/cream color.

18. package of white buttons: 1/2" pearl/shell, 31 pcs. two hole of varying thicknesses.  Cream/yellow color.

19.  package of white buttons: 1/2" pearl/shell, 30 pcs, four hole, varying thickness.  Cream/yellow color (off white).

20.package of white buttons: 1/2" pearl/shell, 28 pcs, four hole, varying thickness. same off white color.

21.  package of white buttons: 1/2" pearl/shell, 29 pcs, varying thickness, same off white color.

22.  package of white buttons: 1/2" pearl/shell, 29 pcs, varying thickness, same off white color.

23. package of white buttons: 1/2" pearl/shell, 31 pcs, varying thickness, same off white color.

24.  package of white buttons: 1/2" transparent plastic, 30 pcs,  unform thickness, slightly yellow from age.

25. package of white buttons: 1/2" opaque plastic, 30 pcs, varying thickness, slightly  off white color.

26. package of white buttons: 1/2" plastic, 30 pcs, same thickness, most match, 4 hole, same off white color.

27. package of white buttons: 1/2" plastic, 30 pcs, varying thickness (some match, some don't), 2-4 hole, same off white color.

28. package of white buttons: 1/4" white plastic, 12 pcs, 4 hole, these look newer.

29. package of white buttons: 1/2" plastic, varying shades of grey/white/cream,  30 pcs, varying thickness, some sets.

30. package of white buttons: 1/2" plastic, 30 pcs, 4 hole, some sets, pearl look, newer buttons?.

31. package of white buttons: 1/2" 30 pcs,  opaque white w/ pearl finish, newer buttons?

32. package of white buttons: 1/4" pearl/shell, 30 pcs, varying thickness, same off white color.  Tiny, beautiful older pearly buttons with two holes.

33. package of white buttons: 1/4" pearl/shell, 25 pcs, varying thickness, same off white color.  Older, two holed buttons, some sets, tiny, beautiful older pearl buttons.

34. two plastic buttons, 1", solid white plastic and pearly plastic.

35. one plastic 1/2" button, four hole, dress button.


Beautiful assortment of buttons, hundreds of them, a lot of them pearl/shell buttons, older 1/4 to 1/2" and beautiful with lots of shades of white, cream, and spots of pearly color.  Nice earlier glass shirt type buttons.  Some Plastic too.  Metals too. 

Not sure of the age, the pearls/shells look like 1930s 1940s or even earlier to me but I am no button expert.  These pearls are thinner, and smaller than men's shirt buttons, look like they are off of kid's clothes?  Some new ones in here, the Crafty brand looks 1980s, and some of the plastic ones look newer too.  But let the photos and descriptions be your guide.  Any more info can be easily given.


Condition: all look to be in good shape.  No broken buttons although some of the pearl ones look thinner and uneven but look usable.  Just made that way I think.

Lots of buttons here  of varying styles, materials and ages.  Would be great to use for crafts, display or whatever you need lots of buttons for.
