This book focuses on the human aspects of mining, through acollection of almost three hundred carefully selected images, nostalgic to some, but of increasingly historic and educational value to many younger people.
Brian Elliott is the son of a Barnsley area miner. His uncles, paternal grandfather and great grandfather were all pitmen. After a teaching and lecturing career in Royston and Dinnington, Brian now works as a freelance writer and editor with a special interest in former coal mining communities. He has written and compiled more than twenty books on the history of the Barnsley area.
