Auction Description

Antique Georgian Pair Case Verge Fusee 1802 - An Extremely Fine Example of Chasing, Engraving & Precision Workmanship

The case and watch are a matching pair, both hallmarked in 1802. This pair case verge was purchased ten years ago when it had been serviced and has stayed in a box since then. It has a superbly old sound when ticking. The dial has some hairline cracks as shown in the photographs but the rest of the watch is in superb condition, the hinges and clasps are tight. There are three watch papers and part of an invoice in the case.

The case was made by Edward Lees of London and the watch was made by Charles Davidson who probably lived in Forfar (near Dundee, Scotland). He would have purchased the cases in and built the watches to fit.

STERLING SILVER - HALLMARKED LONDON 1802

A key is supplied, the watch is set from the peg on the front and wound anti-clockwise from the rear.

The watch is excellent and I have a returns policy anyway. I trade on eBay and have Top Rated Seller status and 100% +ve feedback. You won't find a watch in such good condition for the price nowadays, as they are being kept by collectors. The problem with a collection agent is that I don't have control over where the item is going and the insurance. Paypal require the item to be posted to the address supplied in Paypal and I would have to use a courier that had full tracking and supplied online signature as proof of receipt. I have contacted Paypal and they tell me I will have no protection against a clawback if you use a collection agent. If Paypal is used, I have to go by their rules. I think this also applies to most credit card trasactions too.

In case you're unaware the question made by the "oceanographer" is a scam. I've seen the same scam on Ebay word for word.

Yes - I know - I pasted it in the forums when I got it. I stick to seller protection policies anyway, if I do not have full seller protection, including unauthorised credit card use, the item doesn't get shipped. Thanks for your concern. Mark
