Found some wonderful books this week at an estate sale.  Excellent cookbooks, coffee table editions, children's books and knitting and crochet books.  All in beautiful condition unless noted.

Favorite Recipes Press published this fantastic cookbook of American cooking in 1992.  The Illustrated Encyclopedia of American Cooking- a guide to American cooking has 960 pages are packed with excellent recipes. Over 5000 recipes (my estimate, I think that is low estimate too).

This huge hardcover cookbook is fantastic and would be a great gift for anyone who wants a reference book that covers everything from soup to sauces to meats to poultry to fish to desserts to snacks and more.

Since it is an encyclopedia it lists things in alphabetical order, i.e. all the Almond recipes are together, as are the fish, chicken, etc.   Kind of neat if you have lots of walnuts and need cooky recipe.

 Condition:   very good for its age.  No writing or marks.  Book is  in gift giving condiiton.  A bit of scuffing on the covers, smudges on page edges (on bottom of book), slight wear to indention on each side of spine (for getting a finger hold on), but no writing or damage. 

Excellent first cookbook for those on their own for the first time or for gift giving.  Covers everything from cooking eggs to roasts to desserts.  The encyclopedia format is wonderful for cooking, you have hazelnuts, wow, there are recipes. You have a beef steak, there are the recipes, you feel like pudding, look up pudding and find all the recipes.  Makes more sense than the regular cookbook.
