April 30, 2010 DeBeers Prices Increase
Sightholders of the Diamond Trading Company (DeBeers DTC) were surprised to discover that the DTC had increased the price of rough by 3-7% at this week's sight sale. Traditionally the DTC would have announced the price increase prior to the sight sale, but an announcement was not made in advance this time.
The recent price increase primarily affects larger diamonds in the range of three to eight carats, but we might see a trickle down effect.
The estimated distribution of this weeks sight sale was $520 to $550 Million

De Beers sold an estimated $470 million worth of rough diamonds to sightholders at this week’s Diamond Trading Company (DTC) April sight, RAPAPORT reported. According to participants, DTC raised its prices by an estimated 5 percent to 7 percent, with the highest increases apparent in rough stones over 5 carats and pique goods.
