Edited versions of the interviews are available in Brian's book Yorkshire Mining Veterans (Wharncliffe Books, 2005).
In these sample extracts you can hear 100-year-old Tommy Hart talk about his early work on the pit top and underground and 95-year old Gerald Booth demonstrates a fine singing voice.
George Rawson recalls the 1921 miners' strike and riding pit ponies and we hear from Bernard Goddard ,the youngest mines inspector in
George Kemp and Jack Parkin remember the terrible Wharncliffe Woodmoor disaster of 1936.
Jim Reeve describes some of his experiences as a Mines Rescue volunteer and how he felt when he had convey bad news to a miner s wife. Listen, also, to the contrasting voices of Frank Beverley,(including 'tipple-tin-day)_ Len Picken; and Dennis Rodgers who got buried in Wentworth Drift. Two younger men, Stuart Woodlock and Michael Taylor tell us about their early mining experiences.
