A new town, a new school, and new friends to make - Peggy dreads the prospect. Her parents assure her everything will turn out all right, but in a moment of panic at school, Peggy pretends she owns a horse and when the girls find out she doesn't, they ignore her.
To fill her loneliness, Peggy agrees to be part of a puppet show competition with the help of George, an eccentric boy a grade younger who is a pain. Their attempts at making puppets are a dismal failure, until Sing Lee, the gardener and houseman of the rich old widow next door, helps them. But the beautiful puppets they create together lead to trouble for Sing. Can Peggy and George's new friendship help them throught the hard times ahead?
